KATIMA MULILO – A 33-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband in the Chotto informal settlement at Katima Mulilo on Sunday.
The woman was taken to the Katima Mulilo District Hospital after being stabbed multiple times on the head and face around 21h00, the Namibian Police said in its weekend crime report.
“It is alleged that the deceased was heard screaming for help by neighbours who then tried to rescue her, but found the house locked from the inside. When they looked through the window of the couple’s room, they observed the suspect holding a knife. He turned off the lights in the room when he noticed the presence of people outside,” it read.
When the woman stopped screaming, the suspect came out of the house and told the neighbours to call the police, and walked away carrying just his shoes.
“After the suspect walked away, the neighbours called the police for assistance. They found her in a pool of blood and unconscious. The woman was transported to the hospital, where she was declared dead by a doctor,” it noted.
Meanwhile, the police found an axe handle with blood stains and a smashed mobile phone believed to have belonged to the deceased.
The 44-year-old suspect remains at large after he was traced through his friends, but could not be located.
The woman’s next of kin have been informed, and police investigations continue. -Nampa
