Boy kills another in argument over ‘cocaine’

GOBABIS – A 14-year-old boy allegedly killed an 18-year old male after he stabbed him in the neck with a knife during a fight in Gobabis in the Omaheke region on Saturday.

A weekend crime report, issued by the Namibian Police, said the victim found the suspect with four other friends and allegedly accused the suspect of stealing cocaine and sandals from him.

According to the police, he further threatened the suspect that if he sees him with anything valuable, he would take these from him.

“In response, the suspect drew his okapi (knife) and told the deceased that as long as he had his knife with him, he would never allow anything to be taken from him.”

It is further alleged that one of the friends intervened and stopped the argument between the two, after which they both walked away. A short while later, however, the deceased saw the suspect and reportedly began throwing bricks at him while walking towards the suspect, and started throwing punches.

“It is allegedly during that moment that the suspect stabbed the deceased once on the neck. He collapsed and died on the spot,” the report stated.

The victim has been identified as Anton Goeieman; his next of kin are informed.

The minor suspect was arrested and was due to appear in the Gobabis Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
