The weekend crime report was predominantly marked by a high incidents of culpable homicide, suicide, attempted murder, inquest, robbery, house breaking and drugs.
Culpable homicide
Several fatal road incidents were reported over the weekend, claiming seven lives.
Three men died and several passengers were injured after a minibus overturned on the Omitara-Otjinene road. The accident occurred after a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control.
An eight-year-old died after being struck by a taxi in Havana. The vehicle allegedly left the road and hit pedestrians.
In Mariental, one person died after being trapped in a house fire.
A 27-year-old woman died after being hit by a vehicle while crossing the road at Okalevona location between Onethindi and Ondangwa.
In another incident, a 35-year-old driver died after a head-on collision with a truck near Gobabis.
Suicide
A 57-year-old man died after a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Friday afternoon at Otavi.
Meanwhile, a 55-year-old man died after shooting himself with a pistol at Freedom land, Windhoek.
Again, a 50-year-old man died after shooting himself with a revolver at his residence in Karibib.
Attempted murder
A four-year-old boy sustained head injuries after being assaulted by a 30-year-old man whilst sleeping at Ondiyamande village in the Oshana region.
A 41-year-old police officer sustained gunshot wounds after being shot by a 61-year-old suspect during an arrest. It is alleged that the suspect was being arrested regarding a separate investigation when a struggle ensued leading to the suspect discharging a firearm, striking the police officer.
Inquest
The body of a 36-year-old man was discovered in the bushes by security officers on patrol on Friday in Northern Industrial area in Windhoek.
A 61-year-old pensioner died after being trapped in a house fire in Mondesa.
Drugs
A 27-year-old woman was arrested after police discovered cannabis valued at over N$50 000 in her vehicle during a roadblock search.
Another incident, a 34-year-old man was arrested after cannabis were found during a search at his residence in Uupindi location, Oshakati.
Four suspects robbed a business premises after tying up a security guard and stealing a pistol, shotgun and about N$200 000 in cash at Oshikango.
The police are looking for two suspects who robbed a lodge guest at gunpoint, stealing vehicles keys, electronics and cash in Kamanjab.
Six suspects attacked a couple at St George’s Mountain with Okapi knives, stealing their phones, shoes and money in Klein Windhoek.
House breaking
A suspect broke into a house in Kleine Kuppe and stole electronics worth over N$100 000 at gunpoint.
Unknown suspects broke into a business premises using unknown objects, stealing items including two Jackpot machines, cash, alcohol, and a cellphone at a value of N$295 000.
