Local boxer Flame ‘Special One’ Nangolo is set to defend his WBO Africa super featherweight title on April 25 at the Roman Catholic venue, AC Promotions has announced.
The bout comes at a crucial stage in Nangolo’s career after he was recently ranked among the top 15 boxers by the World Boxing Organisation (WBO), a significant milestone that moves him closer to a potential world title challenge.
As part of his preparations for the title defence, Nangolo is expected to travel to Las Vegas for a high-performance training camp, where he will fine-tune his skills ahead of the fight against an opponent yet to be approved by the WBO committee. However, AC Promotions faces a major challenge in staging the event, with no sponsorship secured to cover key logistical requirements, including WBO sanctioning fees and operational costs. The promoter has therefore appealed to corporate companies to partner with them to ensure the success of what they describe as a historic event.
“We also respectfully call upon the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, through its sports budget, to support us as promoters. Promoters play a critical role in the development of boxing in the country by creating platforms for athletes to compete, grow and gain international recognition,” read a statement from the stable.
“In the absence of sponsorship, we believe the government can step in to ensure the continued growth and success of professional boxing and the representation of our nation on the global stage.”
Tickets for the event are priced at N$300 for general admission, while VIP tables seating 10 people are available at N$20 000 per table. The promoters have strongly encouraged corporate companies and institutions to purchase VIP tables to help raise funds for sanctioning fees and other logistical costs.
“Together, we can make this championship defence a landmark event for boxing and for the country,” the statement concluded.
