The primary objective of a recent Walvis Bay Corridor Group (WBCG) engagement in the Erongo region was to consult directly with transport and logistics industry partners to gain a first-hand understanding of emerging sectoral developments. By identifying specific operational bottlenecks that hinder efficiency along Namibia’s strategic corridors, WBCG aims to implement targeted solutions that enhance the seamless flow of regional trade.
The WBCG has concluded a high-level, three-day stakeholder engagement mission led by acting CEO, Edward Shivute, from January 19 to 21, 2026. According to the WBCG, the visit signals a reinforced commitment to Namibia’s strategic objective of becoming the preferred trade gateway for the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
“Our mission remains clear: to maintain and enhance the competitiveness of our corridors. These consultations are vital for aligning our strategic operations with the needs of both the private sector and relevant regulatory agencies. By addressing industry ‘pain points’ and fostering deep-rooted collaborations, we ensure that the Walvis Bay Corridors continue to offer the most efficient and reliable transit solutions in the region,” said Shivute.
During the visit, the acting CEO met with key industry partners, including Namport, as well as various freight forwarding and logistics enterprises. The insights gathered will be instrumental in finalising the WBCG Strategic Framework for 2026–2031, which seeks to leverage Namibia’s world-class infrastructure to handle growing cargo volumes, which recently surpassed the 2.5 million metric tonne milestone.
As the WBCG transitions into this new five-year strategic period, the organisation remains dedicated to its unique Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, facilitating solution-oriented conversations that drive economic growth and regional integration.
The engagements are expected to continue to ensure the industry’s voices are heard and aligned with national priorities as outlined in the NDP6 and other national strategic frameworks.
