Local coaches complete Fifa Futsal coaching course

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) Fifa Futsal Coaching Course concluded last Friday at the Football House in Windhoek, with practical on-court sessions conducted at the DTS, as part of continued efforts to strengthen futsal development and coaching standards in Namibia.

The five-day workshop brought together local coaches for an intensive programme that blended classroom-based learning with hands-on practical training.

The course aimed to deepen coaches’ understanding of modern futsal concepts, including game philosophy, tactics, player development and match management.

Participants were taken through Fifa’s structured futsal coaching methodology, with a strong emphasis on practical application. On-court sessions enabled coaches to put theory into practice, focusing on technical skills, team organisation, transitions and futsal-specific set-piece situations.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Fifa Coaching Instructor Graeme Dell emphasised the importance of integrating futsal and football as part of a unified development pathway, particularly for countries with smaller populations.

“You have an abundance of opportunity here in Namibia in terms of resources, players and facilities for what is still a relatively small country with around three million people.

Forward-looking associations around the world recognise the role futsal plays in the development of young footballers, but also its value as a game. I’m sure the NFA will be no different as they look ahead,” Dell said.

Dell described the group of coaches as engaging and friendly, adding that their commitment and work ethic should serve as an example to many.

The course forms part of Fifa’s ongoing commitment to supporting member associations through capacity building and coach education. By equipping coaches with up-to-date knowledge and practical tools, the programme aims to contribute to the long-term growth and sustainability of futsal at both grassroots and elite levels.

Speaking after the course, Quality FC futsal coach Chela Nunda said the programme encouraged her to think outside the box and reinforced the importance of continuous learning.

“This was a very good effort from the NFA, especially in empowering women to take the lead in establishing a women’s futsal league,” Nunda said.
