Vries appointed  NFA’s acting  general secretary

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) has announced the appointment of Mabos Vries as its acting general secretary (GS) with effect from 1 February.

In a statement, the NFA confirmed that Vries’ appointment will remain in effect until a substantive GS is appointed or the NFA executive committee decides otherwise.

During this period, Vries will assume all duties and responsibilities of the GS office in an acting capacity.

Vries takes over from Cassius Moetie, who had been serving as acting GS since March last year, following the passing of Charles Siyauya.

Siyauya’s death left a significant void in the association’s administration, prompting the executive committee to appoint interim leadership to ensure continuity in the running of football affairs.

Reacting to his appointment, Vries described the opportunity as an honour and a major step forward in his football administration career.

“I am happy, as this is just another elevation in my football career. For now, I have to accustom myself to everything on the ground and get to know the inner workings of everything before fully settling into the job,” he said.

Vries is a seasoned Namibian football administrator.

He currently serves in key leadership roles within the NFA and Namibian football governance.

He has established a long-standing presence in the sport’s organisational structures, particularly in league administration and operations.

He has been the league director responsible for managing domestic competitions, including the Namibia Premier Football League, Women’s Super League and other leagues under the NFA umbrella.

In this capacity, he oversees league administration, scheduling, coordination with clubs and overall operational issues in Namibian football.

Vries has a background as a footballer, having played competitively in Namibia before transitioning into administrative roles.

His experience in the field has helped shape his insights into league and competition management.

Early in his career, he helped establish and develop Premier League structures in Namibian football, demonstrating deep roots and institutional knowledge in the local game.

The NFA executive council expressed full confidence in Vries’s ability to lead the association’s administration during this transitional period.

The council called on all NFA members, stakeholders, partners and the wider football community to give him their full cooperation and support as he carries out his duties.

At the same time, the NFA extended appreciation to outgoing Moetie for his service and commitment over the past 11 months.

“We express gratitude to Cassius Moetie for his dedication and willingness to serve the NFA as head of administration during a difficult period,” the statement reads.

The association further thanked all stakeholders for their continued support of Namibian football during a time marked by transition and loss.
