Swakopmund archers take aim at Continental glory

Last weekend, Swakopmund Archery Club staged its annual Target Archery Valentine’s Shoot at the SFC Sport Club in Swakopmund, drawing competitors from various age divisions and bow categories.

The tournament served as a crucial preparatory platform ahead of the 76th South African National and Regional Championships scheduled for Johannesburg from 27 to 29 March 2026.Participants shot a double WA 720 round on Saturday, followed by a single WA 720 on Sunday. Each WA 720 round consists of 72 scoring arrows, with every arrow worth up to 10 points, making the double round a demanding test of both precision and stamina. Although elimination rounds and medal matches concluded the contest, the primary objective extended beyond podium finishes. The event aimed to give archers the opportunity to secure or improve qualifying scores for the Johannesburg championships.

The Archery Association of Namibia congratulated Babette Taljaard and Jacqueline Coetzee for attaining the required qualification marks. They will join Jannie Meuwesen, the national team’s representative, at the event. The next qualifying opportunity for archers seeking national colours will take place in Windhoek from 7 to 8 March at the Windhoek Archery Club range at Yellowstone Trails.
