Successful preparations ahead of SA national’s

The Swakopmund Archery Club hosted a two-day final preparation for the South African national outdoor target competition at the SFC Sport Club from 14 to 15 March.

The event was part of Namibia’s readiness programme ahead of the 76th South African National Archery Championships scheduled for later this month.

In a statement, the Archery Association (AAN) said the event carried significance on the officiating front.

“Veteran judge Rita Schenk oversaw proceedings, while trainee judge Pieter du Plessis completed his penultimate shadow assignment.  Upon successful completion of his practical evaluation, du Plessis is expected to receive full World Archery accreditation for both Indoor and Outdoor judging formats,” read the statement.

Furthermore, it is confirmed that for the first time in recent years, the country will field two mixed teams at the upcoming South African nationals, one in the compound category and one in compound 50+.

The AAN has further confirmed that para-archer Jan-Lotz du Toit will join the national delegation and compete in the para-compound men’s division.

“His participation marks an important step for para-archery representation on the national stage. Namibia’s accomplished Barebow archer Lutz Wahlers will also return to the competition line at this year’s South African nationals. Having secured medals for Namibia consistently over the past three years, Wahlers will once again represent the country with the aim of adding to his international achievements,” further read the statement.

The AAN extends its appreciation to the Swakopmund Archery Club, participants, judges, and support teams for their contributions to a successful, professionally executed event.
