The councillor for Otjinene constituency Eben-Ezer Kauapirura said the construction of the Otjinene Sports field will contribute to economic development of the constituency.
The construction of the Otjinene Sports field is part of the government decentralisation policy and its plan to build sport facilities in all constituencies countrywide.
Kauapirura, speaking at the recent event said that the benefits that will be brought by the Sports field construction will be far reaching.
“This will project will not only promote sport development but will contribute to the economic growth of Otjinene,” he said.
The new sport field will accommodate various sport codes, including football, tennis, volleyball, basketball, and netball and will provide opportunities for the youth to engage in sport and develop their talents.
“We are excited to see positive impact it will have on our community,” said Kauapirura.
The councillor added that for Otjinene to prioritised among the first beneficiaries of the sport field construction in the Omaheke region is a testament that the country’s leadership recognised Otjinene.
Meanwhile, Omaheke sport coordinator Fonso Tjatindi said the new development is commendable and must be supported by all.
The coordinator proposed for indoor sports facilities as well.
“Otjinene is one of the constituencies that has produced athletes that went as far as representing Namibia at national level in various sport codes.
Kaupasaneua Tuaire, the community sport development officer for Otjinene, complimented the Otjinene leadership and the government for the noble idea of bringing sport facilities closer to the grassroots.
“Our athletes will benefit a lot from this initiative and the pressure on Legare Sports Stadium will be reduced, as local tournament can be hosted at this facility. We can also host national events in our constituency and thus will contribute to economic growth of Otjinene,” Tuaire said.
Tuaire said the sport field will also curb distance of the Otjinene football team when they have to play their league matches in Gobabis. -zngaruka@yahoo.com
