Doc Tourney sets new participation benchmark

Bank Windhoek and the Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF) completed the 2026 Bank Windhoek Volleyball Doc Tournament, hosted at The Dome in Swakopmund last weekend.

The tournament delivered a major boost for the sport’s growth, drawing 39 teams (16 women’s and 23 men’s) and marking one of the strongest editions in the event’s 42-year history.

Eleven clubs competed at the tournament for the first time, signalling a healthy influx of new talent and an expanding national volleyball footprint.

The participating teams battled it out for a total prize purse of N$120 000, with top-performing teams awarded trophies and medals, reinforcing a culture of excellence while motivating clubs across the country to invest in training and performance.

The 2026 tournament also welcomed a standout international competitor, Green Buffaloes Volleyball Club from Lusaka, Zambia, who captured both the men’s and women’s titles in their first appearance, raising the technical standard and adding a strong regional dimension to the event. The Zambian team, a force to be reckoned with, said that although they won both categories, it was not an easy win, since the Namibian teams put up great performances.

In the women’s division, Namibia Correctional Service Volleyball Club followed Green Buffaloes in second place, Blaze Aces Volleyball Club in third, Revivals Volleyball Club in fourth, and NamPol Volleyball in fifth.

In the men’s division, the Namibia Correctional Service Volleyball Club took second place; Namibia Defence Force Raptors placed third; NamPower Volleyball Club finished fourth; and Afrocat Sports Club D finished fifth.

With volleyball participation rising across the country through schools, community clubs, and national leagues, the tournament continues to serve as a premier platform where athletes test their skills under pressure, build networks, and take important steps toward higher-level competition and national-team ambitions.

For more than a decade, Bank Windhoek has been a proud partner of volleyball development in Namibia through sustained investment and close collaboration with the Namibia Volleyball Federation. In 2026, the Bank contributed N$560 000 to renew its sponsorship of the NVF, supporting athlete development, competition structures, and opportunities for players to represent Namibia with pride.

“Sport is more than competition. It is a powerful tool for youth empowerment, social inclusion and national pride,” said Samuel Linyondi, Bank Windhoek Strategic Communication Manager.

“When young people step onto a volleyball court, they learn discipline, teamwork, leadership and resilience and tournaments like this create platforms where dreams are born, and future champions are discovered. We were highly impressed by the level of competition from all the competing teams.”

The 2026 edition attracted high-profile stakeholder support, including local and national sports leaders, reflecting the Doc Tournament’s status as a premier fixture on Namibia’s sporting calendar.

NVF president Tobias Mwatelulo welcomed the continued support, noting that the partnership helps elevate event standards and sustain a platform that players and fans have come to trust.
