The Central Volleyball League (CVL) season officially kicked off on Saturday, 11 April 2026, at the UNAM main campus gym hall and outdoor courts, as well as at the Patrick Iyambo Police College in Windhoek.
The referee director of the CVL, Abiatar Andreas, has invited the public and volleyball enthusiasts to attend matches over the weekends and support the teams.
“Your presence will motivate the players and bring great energy that will inspire both the players and officials. Don’t miss this opportunity, it’s going to be exciting,” he said.
The opening fixtures delivered thrilling volleyball action. A standout match between UNAM Kings D Volleyball Club and Afrocat E Volleyball Club set the tone for what promises to be a competitive season. Afrocat E displayed dominance throughout most of the match, winning three sets to one (3–1) in a four-set encounter.
Following the match, this publication spoke to the coaches of both teams to get their perspectives on the season ahead.
Fiddeny Sillinda, head coach of UNAM Kings D, said the team is aiming to challenge the top sides in the league despite being a development squad.
“The league has started, and our goal is to challenge the big guns. Yes, we are a development team, but we have the personnel to cause a few upsets,” he said.
Sillinda expressed confidence in his team despite the loss, highlighting areas that need improvement.
“We had a chance to win the game, but when the players’ morale dropped, it affected the entire team. We need to go back to the drawing board and build confidence. Our primary focus will be on improving our defence, as our attack is already strong,” he added.
Meanwhile, Afrocat E head coach Ishitile Aloisius described the victory as a bonus, emphasising the team’s developmental focus.
“Winning is just a bonus. Our team is focused more on development, and if we win, we appreciate it. I’m very happy with the team, they showed up ready and performed well. We are running a strong development programme in Katutura, and I’m proud of what we achieved,” he said.
