GOBABIS – A case of culpable homicide was registered following the motor vehicle accident that occurred at Witvlei on 4 April 2026 in the Omaheke region.

According to the incident report by Namibian Police Force spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, the accident involved Omaheke NamPol regional commander Commissioner Heinrich Tjiveze, who bumped a pedestrian.

The report said Tjiveze was on duty and operated a service vehicle at the time of the incident.

“It is alleged that the pedestrian was walking in the middle of the road at the time of the collision, which occurred at around 19h20 on the main road in the Witvlei area,” Shikwambi said. The deceased has been identified as Otto Giovani Daniel, aged 23, and the next of kin have been duly informed.

Further investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Upon finalisation of the investigation, the docket will be submitted to Prosecutor General Martha Imalwa for a decision,” the police report stated.

Speaking to the publication, family member Immanuel Koiseb said the sudden death of his brother is painful and a big loss to the family.

“We are grieving the young man who left us in shock, and we are still waiting for the finalisation of police investigations,” he said, adding that the deceased was with his two sisters when the accident occurred.

Koiseb, who is also the chairperson of the Witvlei Village Council, further said the burial might take place next week in Witvlei.
