Cabinet decisions were issued at the 15th Cabinet meeting held on 19 May 2026:

Namibia for Life Project

The Cabinet approved the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism to establish the Namibia for Life Project finance for permanence initiative.

The initiative offers critical benefits as it enables long-term effective conservation while empowering local partners and communities to take ownership of natural resource management.

Furthermore, the cabinet authorized the environment ministry to sign the Extension Services Fund Agreement and the Socio-Economic Development Fund Agreement to strengthen conservancy governance, compliance, and wildlife management and support community-led and nature-positive enterprises with economic incentives such as tourism and conservation hunting.

Amendments to Dorop and the Namib Naukluft national parks’ boundaries

Cabinet authorized the tourism minister to amend the boundaries of the Dorob National Park and the Namib-Naukluft Park to allow for the expansion of the Walvis Bay town boundaries for the purposes of providing land for the Walvis Bay Landfill Site to be within the boundaries of the municipality of Walvis Bay.

Accession to the 1988 protocol to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea

Cabinet approved, in principle, Namibia’s accession to the 1988 Protocol to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974 (SOLAS Protocol 1988), in order to enhance maritime safety and align Namibia’s legal framework with international obligations in shipping and transport.

Alignment of health ministry tariffs to the Public Service Employees Medical Aid Scheme and the Namibia Association of Medical Aid Funds for non-hospitalization services

Cabinet endorsed the proposed tariff rates set at the 2014 Namibia Association of Medical Aid Funds (NAMAF) Tariffs PLUS 20% for the purpose of billing the Public Service Employees Medical Aid Scheme (PSEMAS) and other Medical Aid Fund beneficiaries.

Moreover, the Cabinet mandated the health minister to undertake the necessary administrative actions, namely, to initiate the gazetting of the revised fees payable by PSEMAS and other Medical Aid Fund beneficiaries receiving services at State Hospitals as per the Hospitals and Health Facilities.
