A pregnant woman, who is suspected to have been raped and murdered in Dolam in Windhoek over a week ago, died as a result of strangulation, the police have confirmed.
The remains of Rosina Bono /Gaoses, aged 26, were recently found in a riverbed in Sukkot Street at Dolam. The deceased was found half-naked with her underwear halfway down her legs.
A male person from the same area as the deceased, who was picked up by the police for questioning last week Monday, has since been released without charge.
Khomas regional police crime investigation coordinator Deputy Commissioner Sylvanus Nghishidimbwa said no one has been charged in connection with /Gaoses’ death and the man brought in for questioning was released within 48 hours.
Nampol spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi said their investigation ascertained that the deceased was pregnant at the time of her suspected murder.
He said it appeared the deceased was murdered elsewhere and that her body was then dumped in the riverbed.
/Gaoses grew up in the care of Dolam Children’s Home in Katutura, which is run by renowned woman’s rights activist Rosa Namises, until such time that her father came to get her, while she was still in high school.
According to Namises, the victim was brought to her home by a social worker in the former Women and Child Protection Unit (WCPU) and started attending school and lived with her until Grade 9 or 10.
She recalled that the late /Gaoses had wanted to become a teacher. The deceased leaves behind her one-year-old daughter.
