Tragedy struck Namibian football for the umpteenth time when a vehicle carrying the technical staff of MTC Premiership giants Black Africa overturned before rolling twice on the road between Rundu and Grootfontein on Saturday evening.
According to club honcho Ranga Haikali, the driver of the sedan car veered off the road in his effort to avoid hitting a stray donkey.
The travelling entourage was delayed in Oshakati where they waited for injured defender Denzil Haoseb who was receiving medical treatment at the Ondangwa Private Hospital for a CT scan. The Brave Warriors versatile defender had suffered concussion in Black Africa’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of league rookies Young Chiefs.
Haikali said there were no casualties though the passengers were briefly kept at Mpungu Hospital, merely for medical observation.
As a result of the accident, the team could only reach their destination in the wee hours of Sunday morning, just hours ahead of the lunch time kick-off of their MTC Premiership clash against hosts Rundu Chiefs.
Haikali extended his sincere thanks to long serving FIFA accredited match official, Arvo Mufeti, who escorted the shock-ridden BA travelling entourage to Rundu in his private vehicle. Football critics put the blame squarely on the shoulders of the league administrators.
They are all in unison that double headers are the root of all these accidents while blasted the league authorities for letting BA’s match against Rundu go ahead. “Do the officials know about the trauma or psychological impact it has on players,” charged a disturbed football pundit.
“This matter needs thorough investigation. Tura Magic officials were also involved in an accident on the same road. Do we wait until precious lives are lost?”
