The Ministry of Works and Transport yesterday officially launched its 3rd edition of the annual National Sports Championship, slated for August 20 Katima Mulilo in Zambezi Region.
The championship, which normally attracts more than 1 000 athletes – mainly the ministry’s staff from all regions – received overwhelming support from various corporate companies such as Auas Motors, Performance Development Centre (PDC), GPT TransNamib Concrete Sleepers, Indongo Toyota, Total Business Training (TBT) and Claud Bosch Architects Inc.
The companies jointly threw their weight behind the event in the form of financial handovers, while others also donated various items such as playing gear for football, netball, volleyball, athletics, and balls.
The championship was initially launched in 2013 and serves as the ministry’s team building exercise and wellness programme, which aims to build relationships amongst the ministry’s employees.
Speaking at the launch, the Deputy Minister of Works and Transport, James Sankwasa, applauded the organisers for a job well done and urged all participants to foster teamwork and good “colleagueship” through the event.
“Sport is the only tool that keeps people focused in life and at their workplace, because a healthy body is a happy working body … To the sponsors, I cannot thank you enough for your unwavering support throughout the years.
Your support as sponsors have really made a huge difference and I wish to take this fruitful relationship to greater heights,” said Sankwasa.
