Zambia on Tuesday kicked off their preparations for Sunday’s 2016 CAF African Nations Championship (Chan) qualifier against Namibia’s Brave Warriors at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.

The 2009 Chan bronze medalists held their first practice session under new coach George Lwandamina at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

Fifteen players in total out of the 26 call-ups were in camp, as Zambia attempt to qualify for their first Chan final since 2009.  They include goalkeeper Daniel Munyao plus his Red Arrows club mate and midfielder Paul Katema.

New call-up and Green Buffaloes midfielder Buchizya Mfune was one of the early arrivals together with his club mates Jack Chirwa and Allan Mukuka.

Zesco United’s goalkeeper Jacob Banda, midfielders Justin Zulu and Kondwani Mtonga, including striker Jackson Mwanza, were the other players at Tuesday morning training.

The rest were defenders Fackson Kapumbu from Zanaco, Donashano Malama and Boyd Mkandawire from Nkana and Napsa Stars, respectively, including Power Dynamos defender Christopher Munthali and Nchanga Rangers striker Patson Daka.

“Right now I have only been on this job for a few days and there is no time to look at other players just yet. I have to work with what I have,” Lwandamina said.  “We will cast the net wide after we have settled and bring in as many more deserving players as possible.” – Supersport.com
