Seeing that the theme for this year’s World Environment Day is ‘Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care’, Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group is celebrating the day with a focus on water conservation and is encouraging Namibians to consumer water with care.
World Environment Day is celebrated on June 05 each year and is the principal vehicle for the United Nations to encourage worldwide awareness and action for the environment. The day is celebrated in over 100 countries.
“All of us have to look after our resources so that we can continue to live on earth. These resources obviously include water – one of the most critical natural elements which humans are dependant upon. Water literally is life.
Research, however, y shows that people are consuming far more natural resources than what the planet can sustainably provide and this could have catastrophic effects in future,” said Stefanus Gariseb, Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group Environmental Manager.
“Water is fast becoming a critical issue for the central high grounds and the City of Windhoek has called for a 15 percent water saving across the city, while NamWater continues to caution consumers to use water sparingly. Our water reservoirs are at a critical level,” said Gariseb.
The bulk of O&L businesses use water and the group thus wants to take the lead in engaging their employees to start saving and using water sparingly.
“We at O&L believe that we have a part to play in creating the much needed awareness and to support the efforts of the City of Windhoek regarding water saving,” Gariseb said.
