WINDHOEK-The ruling party has taken a hard stance by suspending three Swapo Party Youth leaders who last weekend decided to carry out an unsanctioned land-grabbing act in protest to the way the City of Windhoek handles the city’s land affairs.

SPYL’s Job Amupanda, Dimbulukeni Nauyoma and George Kambala were suspended on Wednesday evening and subsequently barred from taking part in any party activities.

“They were suspended, their case has been referred to the disciplinary committee Swapo secretary general Nangolo Mbumba,” said yesterday. Mbumba did not say when the trio will appear before the party’s disciplinary committee.

“The disciplinary committee will have to decide on when they will appear and do the work on behalf of all of us,” said Mbumba.

According to the party’s constitution, if the disciplinary committee finds the three guilty, they risk expulsion from the party.

The suspension came hours after Amupanda tendered his resignation to the youth league in which he gave notice that he will resign from the league’s national executive committee. By resigning from the SPYL’s National Executive Committee, Amupanda is effectively no longer the youth wing’s secretary for information, publication and mobilisation.

By yesterday afternoon, there was still no official communication between the party’s mother body and the youth league regarding the suspension of the trio.

“I have not yet received anything relating to the suspension. It is strange that they [mother body] would go to the media first before letting us know,” said SPYL Secretary Dr Elijah Ngurare yesterday. Meanwhile, Swapo’s Disciplinary Committee Chairperson, Ngarikutuke Tjiriange also said the disciplinary committee did not receive any communication either.

“It has not reached my office, as we are talking I am in Otjombinde. If it is there maybe I am yet to be told because I have not been in the office for three weeks,” he said. If there is anything that was sent to the disciplinary committee it is perhaps there, I cannot talk about something that I heard through the media, he said.
