WINDHOEK – Brave Warriors mercurial midfielder, Petrus Shitembi says moving to the highly competitive Ghanaian Premiership was a timely decision for his career and has personally helped him grow as a player.

In an exclusive interview with New Era Sports yesterday, the 22-year-old midfield maestro who plies his trade with Ghanaian outfit Ashgold Sporting FC, expressed satisfaction with the standard of football in the west African country and says he has grown as an individual on and off the pitch.

“I have to admit, the Ghanaian league is very competitive, professional and well organised. Life has been good as a footballer and as a person. It was a apt decision for me to move to Ghana and the people here really admire me and appreciate my service to the team,” said the Namibian football wunderkind.

Shitembi has joined Ashgold on a season long loan from South African outfit Amazulu, but could revert back to his parent club in January. The loan deal was necessitated because Amazulu had exceeded their quota for foreign players, making the former University of Pretoria (Amatuks) midfielder surplus to requirement in the interim.

“Although the loan deal ends this year, I’m very proud and appreciate the experience learned here within a short space of time but going back to South Africa next year will mean hard work and more focus in order to get game time at Amazulu. We play lots of friendly games here and that goes hand in hand with league games, so I’m also impressed with my level of fitness. We never rest, always on the ball,”

Shitembi, who scored his first goal for Ashgold during the GHALCA Top-4 Coronation match against New Edubiase, concluded saying he has set the sky as the limit and come next year, he wants to help take the Brave Warriors and club Amazulu to greater heights on their respective spectrums.
