NKURENKURU – Kavango West Regional Coordinator for the supplementary registration of voters has urged potential voters to make use of the supplementary registration of voters to register for the elections.

Kavango West Regional Coordinator for the supplementary registration of voters, Benjamin Makayi revealed that 2 700 eligible voters have registered so far starting from September 08 – 17.

“All is going well and we haven’t faced problems since we started the supplementary registration of voters on the September 08, but the turnout, however, was low, maybe many registered in the general registration of voters,” said Makayi.

“We have 47 teams, 22 semi-fixed and the other 25 teams are mobile, they move from one place to another, according to the programmes,” he said.

According to Makayi no complaints from traditional leaders or councillors have been reveived in the constituencies, regarding the supplementary exercise.

The coordinator encourages those community members who have not yet registered to do so.

“People must make use of the remaining days to register, the registration points close on Saturday night, September 20,” said the regional coordinator.

He also said young people, particularly the born-frees, should register to vote because by registering to vote they will be able to cast their vote and have their voices heard.

“They should not have an excuse, the system is fast, it’s just the turnout that is low,” he stated.

Makayi told New Era, no major hiccups were reported at the numerous registration points and that police are monitoring the peaceful exercise.

“We have a good relationship with the police and other stakeholders, each point has police officers to maintain law and order and everything is under control,” he said.

When New Era visited some registration points, the low turnout was visible, as at some points there were no people registering.

Registration points are open from 08h00 to 19h00 and sometimes go beyond the closing time if there are people waiting to register.
