WINDHOEK – A group of African ambassadors and high commissioners based in Windhoek are raising funds to help the vulnerable people in the country.
The diplomats, calling themselves the African Group, have been doing charity work for the past years, even though without much publicity, giving material assistance to those in need and financial assistance to students through local authorities.
This year the group has attracted sponsorship from South African Airways, Air Namibia and TAAG, the Angolan airline, which donated air tickets that would be raffled during a fundraising dinner in October.
The Ghana High Commissioner to Namibia, Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Harruna Attah, said the ceremony will serve as a platform to discuss aviation in the African Union Agenda 2063.
“The discussion could not come at a better time as the airline industry and African companies in particular are facing difficult times with the global financial crisis, fuel price increases and the Ebola epidemic,” Attah said.
The diplomats say they opted for a different approach this year, with publicity, because want to promote their social initiative programme while giving recognition to the partners who have been contributing to the initiative.
