The 23-year-old Taimi Sakeus is a vibrant and very focused self employed young woman with a big dream of turning her passion into a success.
Hailing from the Northern part of the country, at eight years Sakeus moved to Windhoek to live with her grandmother. She attended her primary school at the Mandume Primary School and continued her high school at the Jan Jonker Secondary School where she matriculated. At school Sakeus was a very shy girl who didn’t have a lot of friends but her passion drew people close to her. “I started designing paper dolls for people at the age of 12-years- old. I never worked, I only used to design something for people to pay me,’’ she says.
Sakeus says growing up was very tough but she kept on pushing for a better tomorrow. ‘’For every dress that I made there is always a challenge but I overcome it by focusing 110%. My strength cometh from the Lord because he is the only one who gives me strength to carry on,” she says. Sakeus looks up to Leokadia Jacob (her cousin) who keeps her going every time she have challenges. ‘’She just know what to say and I pick myself up. She makes me believe in myself more,’’ Sakeus adds. Five years from now Sakeus sees herself as a successful business woman with a studio of her own and with five employees, where she can do her work.
She studied Fashion and Design at the College of the Arts (COTA) where she obtained her diploma. She last month she won the best Africa’s Finest Fashion and Culture, which was good practical experience for her. Sakeus is currently busy making matric farewell dresses and working on her collection for next February. She encourages the youth to stay focused. ‘’To the youth out there, never give up on what you like doing, stay focused and never stop pushing for what you are passionate about.”
