WINDHOEK – A 72-year-old woman had to be treated for shock after she was robbed on Sunday, the police informed journalists during the weekend briefing.

Sergeant Slogan Matheus, from the police’s Public Relations Department said on Sunday that two masked men broke into the house of the woman, tied her up and demanded the keys to her safe.

The incident happened at Boo Dorp location in Usakos. The men went away with N$1 000 in cash, five firearms (three revolvers and two pistols) and MTC recharge vouchers valued at N$1 500.

Matheus said the woman was not harmed but had to be treated for shock.

Last week on Thursday Willem Geingob, 79, burned to death in a corrugated-iron sheet shack.

The incident happened at 19:30 on the farm Vasdraai in the Gobabis district. The next of kin have been informed.

Also on Thursday at 15h00 at Omumbonde village in the Ruacana area, four children aged seven, three, two and one were left at home by their parents who went to the cuca-shops.

The children allegedly tried to cook food or played with matches and as a result a fire broke out in the hut.

One of the children aged three years managed to escape from the blaze unhurt, while the other three burnt to death.

They were identified as Katabo Tjopondje, 7, Dolina Tjimata, 2 and Shindandi Matheus Tuarinawa, 1. Their next of kin have been informed.
