WALVIS BAY – The British High Commission in Namibia on Monday handed over a newly constructed play park to the Walvis Bay Kids Haven Children’s Home at Walvis Bay.
Kids Haven is home to 30 abused and vulnerable children, who have been placed at the home on recommendstion by the Ministry of Health and Social Services. A group of naval officers from the British Royal Navy HMS Portland who visited the harbour town for three-days took some time off to paint the walls and the newly installed play equipment. The N$10 000 donation was handed over to the founder of Kids Haven Maureen Baard by the British High Commissioner to Namibia, Marianne Young, who described it an honour for the British High Commission to get involved in grassroots community projects that make a diffrence in the lives of ordinary people, especially children.
“Baard and her crew are doing an excellent job in taking care of destitute children in the Erongo Region. We are happy to be associated with the haven and that we could built a play park for the children. We identified the Walvis Bay Kids Haven as a local community project, deserving all our support,” said the British High Commissioner. Baard also expressed gratitude towards the British High Commission, saying the play park will definitely impact the children, since they never had such a facility before.
