By Emma Kakololo WINDHOEK The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marco Hausiku, at a recent meeting of the Ministerial Troika of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation urged delegates not to relent on implementation of SADC decisions. He said implementing decisions made by SADC heads of state was essential. The Summit of Heads of State and Government held in Gaborone last year took various decisions for implementation by the different structures of SADC. One such directive was the acceleration of the implementation of the Strategic Plan of the Organ (SIPO). “Our meeting today, therefore, provides us with an excellent opportunity to look at ways on how best we can ensure successful implementation of SADC decisions, as they relate to the organ,” he stated. With regard to SIPO, the Foreign Minister stated the plan would assist the region to create a promising future of peace, stability, democracy and prosperity. Other decisions taken by the summit included one on a SADC Standby Force, the SADC Electoral Advisory Council and the assessment mission to the DRC. Hausiku stated: “As we deliberate today, I am confident that we will be able to come up with strategies to facilitate the effective and timely realisation of the goals that we set ourselves. “As region, we should continue to place high priority on the eradication of poverty and underdevelopment, and also on prevention, management and resolution of conflicts so as to promote sustainable development, regional peace and stability.” The Ministers of Defence and Security, Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs and senior officials from Tanzania, South Africa and Namibia attended the meeting.
