By Petronella Sibeene WINDHOEK A colourful display of traditional dance yesterday greeted the President of Botswana Festus Mogae who arrived at Hosea Kutako International airport for a three-day state visit to Namibia. Accompanied by his wife Barbara Mogae, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mompati Merafhe, Minister of Works and Transport Lesego Motsumi, Minister of Mineral, Energy and Water Resources Charles Tibone and the Minister of Trade and Industry Daniel Moroka, Mogae is expected to visit three other towns across the country. Upon touching down yesterday in a Gulf-Stream splashed in the Botswana national colours of sky-blue, white and black, Mogae was welcomed by his Namibian counterpart, President Hifikepunye Pohamba and First Lady Penehupifo Pohamba together with Prime Minister Nahas Angula and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Marco Hausiku. Dressed in a black-striped suit Mogae was escorted to the dais, followed by a 21-gun salute, as well as the Botswana and Namibian national anthems followed by the African Union anthem. As is custom, the Botswana president inspected the guard of honour after which the national anthems were once again sung. The two presidents greeted different ministers; ambassadors from different embassies, the Botswana community in Namibia, as well as cultural groups who despite the chilly breeze danced and sang for the visitors. This morning, Mogae will officially open the Oshakati Town Council Building. The Botswana president is also expected to visit the railway project at Ondangwa before proceeding to the coast in the afternoon where he will witness the handing over of the dry port to the NamPort authorities by the Minister of Works, Transport and Communication Joel Kaapanda. NamPort and Cadilu Fishing will similarly be visited by the delegation. Yesterday, Mogae held official talks with President Pohamba at State House. He also visited NamDeb headquarters in Windhoek. Mogae will also visit the Omaere-Ghanzi substation that will supply electricity to border towns in his country including Ghanzi.
