By Berio Mbala WINDHOEK In view of the late rains, the Windhoek Meteorological Office yesterday assured farmers, who depend largely on rain-fed agriculture, not to lose hope but to keep working hard as there are indications that good rains could start coming. During an interview with New Era yesterday, weather forecaster Victor Kaurimuje from the Windhoek Met Office explained that forecasts show that in the northern part of the country there would be some moisture coming in and people could expect some thunder showers in that region ranging between 40 and 60 percent. Kaurimuje said the central parts could expect some 20-40 percent thunder showers during the course of this week. As for the south-east, only partly cloudy conditions can be expected, and in the south-west it will be hot as usual, he said. He said rains for the rest of the country are expected as follows: Rundu 0.2 millimetres; Grootfontein 0.2 millimetres; Windhoek 15.2 millimetres; Hosea Kutako International Airport 15.4 millimeters; Gobabis 3.4 millimetres; Keetmanshoop 1.8 millimetres; Nkurenkuru 8 millimetres; Otjovandu 35 millimetres.” Kaurimuje said “the people across the country should be very excited because temperatures will begin dropping to normal conditions.” He noted that the central, southern and eastern parts of the country can expect pleasant, heavy rains throughout the week, and that more cloud-cover over the entire country will be experienced. Thereafter some improved rain showers should then develop.
