By Helge Schultz ALGIERS Immanuel Naidjala gave a great all-round display to convincingly beat Antebicha Duguma of Ethiopia 29-12 on points in a bantamweight bout at the All Africa Games on July 14. Moving well, Naidjala started off with some quick jabs and hooks, but the Ethiopian also landed some solid blows towards the end of the first round, which Naidjala shaded. He however stepped up the tempo in the second round and started landing some solid hooks and quick combinations. Naidjala landed a sharp left hook that put Duguma down for the count of eight and by the end of the round Naidjala was well ahead, 13-7. The Ethiopian tried to clinch and hang on a lot in the third round, but Naidjala impressed with his quick hand speed and solid combinations, to pull ahead 22-11. In the fourth round, Naidjala landed some sharp hooks, and a stiff uppercut to the body once again put the Ethiopian down for the count of eight. Naidjala Feeling Confident “The first round was not easy, but I looked at his movements and saw that he was quite slow, so I picked up the speed in the second round,” Naidjala said. “I put him down with a hard left hook in the second round and actually felt a bit sorry for him,” he added. Naidjala will now face Samir Issah of Ghana in the quarterfinals on Tuesday. “It won’t be easy, but my confidence is high and I feel I can do anything. The president of the African Boxing Association praised me after the fight, and said he was very impressed by my performance,” he said.
