WINDHOEK– Students under the tutelage of veteran photographer, Djunior Svane, are currently exhibiting their work at the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC)’s La-bonne Restaurant.
The students started out with a layman’s knowledge of photography earlier last year. Thirty-one-year-old Nampa Asino says she joined the photography course because of the love and interest she has for pictures. “Taking this course changed everything. I used to take picture for fun and now that I know more about pictures it’s different because I see lot of mistakes in pictures I took then,” says Asino. She adds that the exhibition is going well, because all her pictures are sold. “Taking picture is something I like and enjoy the most. I like bringing the best out of people so I am more focused on taking pictures of people,” says Asino.
She is planning to take her new photographic knowledge to her home town. “I am going to open up my photo studio back in my hometown, Tsumeb, as there are no photo studios there. So those wedding park photos have to die, I am coming to provide good quality picture for you my people,” Asino promises.
For 61- year-old Elna Venter, the love for art and exploring things drove her into photography. “I love art and the fact that I can do photography and still explore more arts work made me consider it,” she says. Venter adds that the exhibition is going well as people are coming around to view it. “A number of my picture are sold, that is a good thing. Now that I am done with this one year course, I am planning to further my photography course somewhere else because I want to know more than I know now about photos. One is never too old to study.”
The exhibition, themed Artistic expressions, opened on January 20 and closes next Friday.
