…Omaruru Spar Cycle Challenge

WINDHOEK – Namibia’s renowned sport consultant Quinton Steel-Botes officially launched the Old Mutual Quinton Steel-Botes Cancer Fund Lawn Bowling Day fundraising event in the capital yesterday, where the headline sponsor Old Mutual pledged the amount of N$30 000.

Slated for the 21st of this month at the Transnamib Bowling Club, Botes announced that interested teams can be part of the event by paying a fee of N$2 500 per team and teams can enter either their male, female or even mixed teams. All royalties from the event will be used to assist cancer patients across the country. The Quinton Steel-Botes Cancer Fund, according to Botes, has over the past six year assisted more than 50 cancer patients with over half a million Namibian dollars, a feat he says was achieved through hosting various cancer fundraising events.

One of the country’s leading sport consultants Bethold Karumendu also followed Botes to the podium to announce the upcoming Omaruru Spar Cycle Challenge, which takes place in that town this coming Sunday. Announcing the race, Karumendu couldn’t heap enough praise on event sponsor Omaruru Spar for their unwavering support over the past 14 years, saying the race has grown from strength to strength over the years and easily draws over 300 cyclists from all parts of the country every year.

Omaruru Spar this year reaffirmed their commitment towards the race with a N$45 000 sponsorship, while FNB Namibia also joined ship with an amount of N$10 000, hoping to make the race much more bigger and better. Organizers say they expect close to 400 riders to take part this year, who will compete in the open, elite, junior, veterans and masters categories.
