Namibia Premier Football League champions African Stars FC have officially parted ways with head coach Agnus Elemu following a successful spell that saw the club secure its fourth consecutive league title and ninth overall championship.
The club announced the development on its social media platforms on Wednesday evening, stating that further updates regarding the team’s technical direction will be communicated in due course.
Speaking to New Era following the announcement, Elemu admitted that leaving the club was emotional but described the experience as an important chapter in his coaching career.
“I am sad, but it is not the end. The life of a coach is like swimming — from the bathtub to the swimming pool, then to the river and finally testing yourself in the sea. In all those stages, you are still in the water, but what changes are the strength, storms and resistance around you,” he said.
“When you come out, that is when you realise how much stronger and better you have become.” Elemu added that his time at African Stars helped him grow both professionally and personally, especially in handling the demands that come with coaching one of Namibia’s biggest football clubs.
“As a coach, I am better than when I arrived at Stars. I gained experience in dealing with ambitious management, managing big players and working with a strong technical team,” he said.
“Above all, I learned the mentality of winning the league. Winning the title is not child’s play. You must fight and work towards it, and I learned not to take small details for granted.”
The coach also thanked the club’s management, players, technical team and supporters for their support during his tenure.
“I would like to thank the management and especially the players for the great moments we shared together, as well as my technical team. To the supporters, I salute you,” he added.
Elemu revealed that he now plans to return to Otjiwarongo, where he will focus on his football academy and spend time developing young players.
“It is time for me to go home, relax and focus on my soccer academy in Otjiwarongo. Spending time with the boys and girls at the academy will be the best medication for my recovery. Football continues,” he concluded.
