The Nedbank for Good Series is set for a thrilling conclusion on 4 October, where the top 20 players from the preliminary rounds will go head-to-head in the finals at Omeya Golf Club.
The 2024 edition of the Nedbank for Good Series took its first tee in March, where Likius Nande and Cehesta Walters emerged victorious in the first round, which also took place at the Omeya Golf Course. The series then moved to Gobabis for round two in April, where Celonika Robbinson and Johan Lewis came out on top, before the attention shifted to Tsumeb and Oshakati in June.
Round three in Tsumeb saw Videlis Hanganda taking top honours in the men’s division, while Magnaem Simon won the ladies’ category. In Oshakati, Antonius Amugongo emerged victorious in the men’s division, with Eveline Shilongo winning the women’s division in round four.
In July, the series went to Mariental, where a major milestone was achieved as the series reached the N$1 million mark, which accumulated from the onset of the series in 2020.
In Mariental, Hermanus Strydom was the winner of round five.
The series then shifted to Oranjemund for round six, where Yolanda Pienaar and Peet Van der Merwe were the victors in the women’s and men’s categories respectively.
August was a busy month for the series, which saw the coastal leg host three events in Henties Bay, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay.
Round seven in Henties Bay saw Fanie Nel and Wilna Bredenhann emerge victorious, and Riaan Coetzee and Justine Shikulo winning in Swakopmund in round eight.
Round nine was in Walvis Bay, where Francois Binneman and Estelle Bothma were the winners.
Round 10, which took place in Windhoek, saw Clarisa Chipfupa and Glenville Dantu book the last spot in the finals.
Series organiser Dan Zwiebel said everything is set for Namibia’s top amateur golf series, adding that having the final at the jewel of Namibia, Omeya, makes the preparations a lot easier.
“Every single year, this series keeps on being amazing. I’d like to thank every single player who teed it up over the year, every club who generously allowed us to use their establishment, all the different committees, and every single person who supported the auctions. Our aim has always been to grow this series from strength to strength,” Zwiebel said.
He praised all the women who participated in this year’s series, saying that by doing so, they are role models who are inspiring the younger generation to take up the sport.
Zwiebel also paid tribute to all the sponsors, saying their continued support of the series is a testament to their commitment to making Namibia a better place for all.
Nedbank Namibia Executive for Wealth Management and Bancassurance, Biniam Ghirmatsion, stated that as sponsors, they are looking forward to the finals, and wish all the participants good luck.
“At Nedbank Namibia, we live by the purpose of being money experts who do good, and seeing how much this series has grown over the years is testament to that purpose. Seeing the impact in the different initiatives we have supported from the inception of the series is incredible and we are geared to continue with that support for years to come. To the golf players taking part in the final on Friday, have fun on the golf course, and remember that we are doing this for our communities,” Ghirmatsion said.
This year, the 10-game Nedbank for Good Series’ goal is to raise funds for Agra ProVision, whose aim is to train, service, and support underserved agricultural communities directly.
