EPUKIRO – The organising committee of the 20th edition of the Aminuis Agricultural Show described the recently-held event as a significant success and a crucial platform for young farmers to gain valuable exposure.
Metarere Ngeenguno, chairperson of the organising committee, stated that the show provided an opportunity for young and emerging farmers to exchange
knowledge with their senior counterparts on livestock management, farming techniques and equipment handling, among other topics.
“We had many small stock farmers, as our area (Aminuis) is commonly known for. We are in a drought period, but the farmers managed to look after their animals very well, and we all saw how impressive the quality is,” he said.
He emphasised that the event was not solely about competition, but also to showcase what farmers could produce, and the quality they could offer.
“We had a reasonable amount of cattle, mainly brought by Epukiro and Eiseb farmers. We rewarded the best performers accordingly, who received their accolades on time,” he added.
Among the top breeders who won awards was Vasana Ndjavera from Epukiro, whose Brahman bull was crowned as the show’s champion in the cattle category.
In the small stock category, Nicklaas Mbingeneko won the inter-breed
division.
Eiseb Block farmer Kapuvii Pura claimed the top prize in the Dorper ewe and ram category, while Otjimati’s Adam Murangi won the Kalahari Red ram accolade.
Vaughn Komomungondo secured the Boer goat champion ewes award, and Vija Mbingeneeko’s ram emerged as the breed champion winner.
Epukiro constituency’s young promising farmers Unotjari Festus Kavari and Pelson Hoveka from Uno Kavari stud and PH Boerdery, respectively, were awarded first places in the Veldmaster ewes.
Kazembi Tjamburo received the White Dorper rams’ accolade, and Mbaroro Katjiuanjo was named Indigenous ewe champion.
The Brahman Cow Champ of Champ Award went to Mbasi Murangi, while Kuazikua Ndjavera won the junior champion in the Brahman Bull division.
Satisfied with the quality of the animals on display, Ngeenguno noted that the success of the show is a testament to the collaborative efforts and shared commitment of everyone involved.
“It was a great exhibition event. The young upcoming farmers showed interest, and that is good for the growth of the industry. We are deeply appreciative of everyone’s support, and look forward to continuing our partnership to foster growth and innovation in our agricultural community,” he stated.
