Angolan kills girlfriend with panga

Home Crime and Courts Angolan kills girlfriend with panga

Tsumeb

On Monday a 28-year-old woman died on the scene at her home after she was allegedly hacked with a panga by her 34-year old Angolan boyfriend, who suspected her of cheating on him.

The deceased and the suspect were in an intimate relationship and a heated quarrel erupted on the fateful night in question after the two arrived at the deceased’s home on their way back from a shebeen. It is understood they ordinarily lived at separate places.

According to Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katjiua of the Oshikoto police, the deceased and the suspect quarrelled after their arrival from the shebeen, as apparently the suspect had accused the deceased of having an affair with another man.

The alleged killing took place at around 20h30 on Monday at King Kauluma village in the Oshikoto Region. A case of murder was opened against the suspect, read with the provisions of the Combating of Domestic Violence Act of 2003. The deceased woman’s next of kin have not yet been informed.

The murder suspect was arrested and is expected to be brought before Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court today.

In a separate incident still in the Oshikoto Region, a 44-year-old male from Onambiya village was arrested for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a mentally retarded person under coercive circumstances.

According to Katjiua, the suspect had on several occasions made sexual advances towards the victim in her house and sometimes in the field. Following the latest incident at around 17h00 on Monday the rape suspect was arrested and appeared in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
