The MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club recently conducted boxing development training for over 100 learners in the Zambezi region.
The club visited two schools, offering basic boxing training and educational materials.
The schools were Namalubi Combined School and Sanjo Senior Secondary.
Founder of the club Joseph Bernard said “We travelled to the Zambezi region, which we had previously visited earlier in the year to promote boxing awareness. This time, we returned with the intention of hosting an event to assess the progress the students have made from the training”.
He added: “We engaged with the students on what they learned, and tried to educate them on the importance of balancing school and sports. We believe that the two can work together to create a conducive environment for the kids,” he stated. In addition to the training, the stable also donated boxing equipment, photocopying machines and paper supplies to the schools.
“The schools welcomed us with open arms, and allowed us to engage with the students. While there, we managed to donate reams of paper to each school, as well as the latest printers and scanners to assist with their daily printing needs,” he stated. “This is an ongoing programme.
It won’t stop here. We will remain in touch with the schools and teachers to ensure that talent is nurtured at the school or regional level”.
“We also provided the Zambezi Boxing Federation (ZBF) with equipment and financial assistance to help these young athletes reach their potential,” he added.
Speaking to this publication, chairperson of the ZBF Sabuta Listdr thanked the stable for the donation, describing it as a good gesture.
“They were here and helped with a couple of things – more importantly assisting us with N$5000 to set up a regional boxing club that would represent the region at any national tournament. We struggle with funds to put a team together, but the donation was a great deed,” he said.
