Boxing showdown set for April

Boxing showdown set for April

On 12 April, the MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing Academy will present the Dr Sam Shafishuna Nujoma Boxing Bonanza at Ramatex Hall, a tribute to the late founding president.

The event promises an exciting night of world-class boxing with three thrilling title fights.

The card will feature Mateus ‘Beast’ Heita defending his World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa Featherweight title against Abdulaziz Kunert, Paulinus ‘John John’ Ndjolonimus putting his WBO Africa Super Middleweight title on the line against Snamiso Ntuli, and Fillipus ‘Energy’ Nghitumbwa facing off with Hassan Milanzi for the WBO Africa Super Bantamweight title.

Speaking at the launch yesterday promoter Nestor Tobias highlighted Nujoma’s significant influence in inspiring local boxing academies and African champions.

Tobias shared that whenever they had a world title fight, they would seek his blessings at his office.

They would return to present the belt to him as a mark of gratitude.

“This event is, therefore, in his honour. We’ve included all three of our world-rated boxers to ensure fans enjoy top-tier boxing,” he said.

Heita, with an impeccable 14 unbeaten record, will look to extend his unbeaten streak as he defends his WBO Africa Featherweight title against South Africa’s Kunert, who boasts 16 fights, 12 wins, three losses and one draw record.

In the co-main event, Ndjolonimus will put his unbeaten 19-0 record on the line against Ntuli from South Africa, who has 14 fights, eight wins, five losses and one draw record.

The main event will see Nghitumbwa, arguably the most dangerous super bantamweight in the world right now, defending his WBO Africa Super Bantamweight title against Milanzi from Zimbabwe.

Nghitumbwa, with 17 fights, 15 wins and two losses, recently secured victories in Japan over former world champions.

Milanzi, with 17 fights, 13 wins and one draw record, will be looking to challenge Nghitumbwa’s dominance in the division.

The event will also feature six exciting undercard bouts, promising a packed evening of boxing, with the action starting at 18h00.

“The boxers are ready, the fans are ready, the opponents are ready, the sponsors are ready, and the nation is ready. We invite everyone to fill Ramatex Hall and celebrate world-class boxing in honour of the founding father’s legacy,” Tobias urged.

The soft spoken Ndjolonimus said the boxers have been putting in the work at the gym and will deliver a great show.

Nghitumbwa said reaching the top of boxing requires tremendous effort, urging fans to fill the hall on fight night.

Heita expressed a personal commitment to giving his best in tribute to the late Nujoma, who fought tirelessly for Namibia’s liberation.

MTC is the proud sponsor of the event, with PstBet as the co-sponsor.

Other sponsors will be revealed later, celebrating the life and legacy of Nujoma.

General tickets will be free, while VIP tables, accommodating 10 persons with a meal and drinks, will be sold for N$20 000.
