Bush Bucks FC continued their dominant run in the Namport Zambezi Regional Second Division League over the weekend, defeating Namib Chiefs 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex.
The log leaders were, however, held to a 1-1 draw by Bright Stars FC on Sunday morning.
Bush Bucks opened the scoring through Seviour Mulelekwa in the 66th minute of the second half. Their lead was short-lived as Bright Stars equalised in the 78th minute through Hillary Lutibezi Tiyeho.
Speaking to Nampa shortly after Sunday’s draw, Bush Bucks Head Coach Budstyn Mutau said the team was satisfied with collecting four points over the weekend, although he remained cautious as other fixtures were still to be played.
“We managed to control the game, but unfortunately we lost that control and they equalised. We are still in the race, but we lost two points. We are still on top. We will go back to the drawing board, reshape and come back stronger,” he said.
Bright Stars Head Coach Kenneth Simasiku also expressed satisfaction with the result.
“We are happy we got one point and that gives us 33 points. It is not always easy to play against such a great team that has achieved so much, even in the first division in previous years. We lost in our first-leg encounter, but we managed to draw at home today,” he said.
The weekend results leave Bush Bucks on top of the log standings with 40 points.
Other clubs were scheduled to play at the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon, as well as at the UNAM Sports Field, with second-placed Shooting Stars FC expected to face Roccano King Rangers later in the day at the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex.
The league season is expected to conclude on 15 June 2026, with most clubs remaining with only two matches before the end of the campaign. -Nampa
