CFC-1 makes history in Fistball Championship

Home Sports CFC-1 makes history in Fistball Championship

Windhoek

Team Cohen Fistball Club (CFC)-1 managed to win the opening tournament in category A in the Bank Windhoek Fistball Championship, while Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW)-3 claimed category B. The tournament took place on Saturday at the SKW sports grounds.

From the onset it was clear in the group stages that CFC-1 was the team to beat when they defeated all their opponents comfortably to shoot to the top of the log.

Stable mates CFC-2, who ended last in all major local competitions last year, seemed to be enjoying a great start but could however not keep up the momentum in the semi-final, eventually losing to SKW-1 and SKW-2.

The final was played straight out in five sets unlike in the group stages where teams switched sides after 12 minutes. The final developed into a potent battle, with the defence from SKW-1 proving solid against the strong attacking CFC-1 outfit.

The first set was won by CFC-1, but later SKW-1 managed to regroup to dominate the second set, but however failed to capitalise on their lead. When the tally read 9:7 for SKW-1, Cohen turned the set around to win 11:9.

Even in the last set SKW refused to give up but unfortunately Cohen had already done enough to lift the trophy for the first time since 1995.

The player of the day was not awarded because nobody showed a consistently good performance throughout the day. The next meeting for the fistballers will be on March 5 when the Bank Windhoek league kicks off in Swakopmund.
