Civics face Pirates tonight

Home Special Focus Civics face Pirates tonight

Windhoek

Sparks are expected to fly when Civics entertain FNB Orlando Pirates in the opening match of round five of the MTC Premiership at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium tonight at 20h00.

Both teams have had a somewhat sluggish start to their 2015/2016 league campaign and the tie is a definite six-pointer if they are to keep their fading title aspirations alive.

The Ghosts have fallen way behind in the pecking order and are pegged back at the wrong side of the league table – nine points adrift of early pace setters and eternal rivals Black Africa.

Another likely disappointing performance by the Katutura giants could spell serious danger for Ali “Mr Fix It” Akan’s aspiration of turning the Ghosts into a glamorous outfit, as promised before the start of the current term.

The Civilians are also struggling to get out of first gear and unless they produce a decent result, Christy Gurseb’s charges could become relegation fodder this season.

The league is a marathon and while it is still early days to start making predictions, the logic of the situation points to a three-horse race between current log leaders Black Africa, defending champions African Stars and resurrected Ingweinyama (Tigers).
