The fifth edition of the Savannah Comedy Hour was launched recently at the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) in Windhoek, where the monthly comedy nights will be hosted.
The comedy platform was started in 2021 by the Comedy Hour Collective, comprising Vernon van Wyk, Aloys Axarob Murorua, Ndelitunga Shikongeni and Kevin Kimaro.
The collective later partnered with Savanna, through Namibia Breweries, which led to the event being renamed Savannah Comedy Hour.
Since its inception, the event has grown into one of Namibia’s most recognised live comedy platforms, hosting more than 50 shows and showcasing over 40 local comedians.
Speaking at the launch, Dries van der Sandt, marketing director of Namibia Breweries Limited, said the partnership reflects Savanna’s strong connection with humour and shared experiences.
“Savanna has always been about creating moments that uplift, connect and bring people together through humour. By sponsoring Savannah Comedy Hour, we continue uplifting and uniting the nation through shared laughter while celebrating authentic Namibian talent,” he said.
Co-founder and organiser Vernon van Wyk promised that the coming year will bring even more entertainment and that the event will contribute significantly to Namibia’s entertainment industry.
This year, organisers also plan to enhance the experience by introducing new comedians and poets to the stage.
The monthly event takes place on the first Thursday of every month at the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre, with the first show of the year scheduled for 2 April.
