The operation was conducted by Khomas and Omaheke police departments.

The suspects were found in possession of 891 boxes of cannabis worth an estimated N$231 000.

Police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi said the suspects were arrested at a roadblock after the authorities searched their vehicle during the early hours of Monday morning.

One of the suspects, Petrus Nunuheb, is a 44-year-old police officer.  The other accused are 58-year-old Namibian woman Miliza Yawa, 39-year-old Namibian man Kashera Shitembi, 45-year-old South African woman Pamela Dido, 55-year-old Zimbabwean male Dunmore Dzuda and 39-year-old Cassius Rodney Neib, also a Namibian man.

All the accused were denied bail when they appeared in the Gobabis Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Their case was postponed to 28 September, and they were remanded in custody to allow the police to complete their investigations.
