WINDHOEK – A 17-year-old boy was shot and wounded in the left leg by officers of the City Police after he allegedly grabbed a cellphone and tried to run away.

The incident is said to have happened in front of the Star Hotel in Khomasdal on Saturday at around 01h20. The suspect was arrested and admitted to the Katutura State Hospital. Another suspect was shot and wounded in the right leg by members of the City Police, when he was caught red-handed breaking into a flat at Pombili Court in Otjomuise. The 43-year-old suspect was arrested and taken to the Katutura Hospital for treatment. The incident also  happened last Saturday at around 02h40.

Meanwhile, acase of culpable homicide was opened after a Toyota pick-up with two adults and two kids overturned 80km west of Windhoek in the Daan Viljoen area on a gravel road. One of the children (a boy) died on the spot.

The other occupants were taken to the Katutura Hospital with serious injuries. A 16-year-old disabled boy burnt to death, while in his bedroom at Walvis Bay Street in Havana. It is alleged that a candle was the cause of the fire. His family was also in the shack during the fire and managed to escape, but could not get to Asser Nghishilwa in time to save him.

In another shack fire 33-year-old Malani Job sustained serious burns while he was sleeping in his shack in Omili Omulyambambi Street. The incident is reported to have occurred on May 30 at around 01h20. Job was taken to the Katutura State Hospital for treatment and he does not know the cause of the fire.
