Promising cyclist Costa Seibeb (above) is set to make waves at the African Continental Cycling Championships, starting today in Egypt. About 21 countries will participate in the continental championship.

 

WINDHOEK – One of Namibia’s most promising cyclists Costa Seibeb will be among the main crowd-pullers when the Namibian cycling team unfolds its campaign at the 9th edition of the much anticipated African Continental Cycling Championships, which gets underway in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt later today.

The Namibian team consists of veteran Dan Craven, Heiko Redecker and Gerhard Mans Jr, while promising juniors such Costa Seibeb, Lucky Mbako, Vera Adrian, Lotto Petrus, Jo-Jo Hamunyela, amongst others, are also part and parcel of the team’s backbone. Jo-Jo Hamunyela and Lucky Mbako are both development riders and will accompany the team to gain exposure and experience.

The team, which is said to be Namibia’s biggest cycling delegation ever to be sent to a continental championship by the Namibia Cycling Federation (NCF), also boasts highly experienced female cyclists Heletje van Staden and Irene Steyn. The pair is expected to make their presence felt with their inspiring riding prowess.

NCF’s Mannie Heymans is the team manager and NCF Secretary General Gerrit van Schalkwyk will serve as the technical assistant during the course of the competition.

Nedbank Namibia also came on board with a sponsorship of N$350 000 to assist NCF with the team’s preparations and travelling expenses.

Men’s Elite Category: Dan Craven, Lotto Petrus, Herko Redecker and Gerhard Mans Jr.

U/23 Category: Raul Costa Seibeb and Fifi Kashololo.

Junior Category: Pascal Marggraff

Women Elite Category: Irene Steyn and Heletjie van Staden

U/23 Category: Vera Adrian

Junior Category: Chelna Neethling

Development Riders: Jo-jo Hamunyela and Lucky Mbako
