Windhoek

The eagerly-awaited 2nd edition of the Dr Hage Geingob Cup was officially launched in the capital yesterday.
This year’s edition of the popular cup competition will be played on July 23-25 in Namibia’s metropolis, with South African giants and incumbent champions Mamelodi Sundowns expected to be back on Namibian soil to defend the title.

Unlike in the inaugural edition, Namibia league champions African Stars will this year take on a fellow local opponent to be determined via the usual SMS competition, while defending champions Sundowns confront Angolan club Primeiro de Agosto – all matches to be played on July 23.

On Saturday July 25, the two losing teams will play a curtain raiser while the two winning sides meet in the final.
The SMS competition that will determine African Stars’ opponents officially started yesterday and will run until July 13. All local football supporters can SMS the team of their choice to the number 5002 at N$2 per SMS.
