In a musical journey that began in the small village of Kasika, the artist known as ‘The Boy from Katima’ Pearce Kamwi released his debut EP titled ‘The Boy from Ngweze’ in October last year in the Zambezi region.
Kamwi’s roots in the region influenced his early interest in music, starting as a kwaito dancer and breakdancer, inspired by local Kwaito pioneers Gazza and The Dogg. The EP features collaborations with fellow artists Yamwala, Dbouy and KatimaKaveli.
He reflects on his musical evolution, mentioning the formation of the group Venus Entertainment in 2013, with hits like ‘Nyunge Nsasi.’ After a hiatus during his university years in Windhoek, he returned to Katima Mulilo in 2020, and discovered his unique sound. With high- school friend Yamwala, they co-founded ‘The Click Studios’ with producer Dj foxxy40.
“I haven’t worked with any big artist out there yet, but 2024 feels like a good year. I’m looking forward to new opportunities, mainly being on TV, collaborations and working with big artists,” he enthused.
‘The Boy from Ngweze’ narrates the story of a young boy from a small town aspiring for greater heights amidst life’s challenges.
His versatile talent extends to various genres, with a focus on AfroFusion. The EP includes tracks like ‘Grateful’ for introspection, ‘Champion’ for motivation, and ‘Chivukite’ for those ready to dance.
“The first time I stepped into the studio to record my first featured verse was in 2012 with the help of my late friend ‘Kowizo’ – RIP. Ever since then, I’ve just been in and out of the studios recording,” he continued. Connect with him on social media platforms. His music is available on major platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.
