Lourens du Plessis from the Gallina Motocross Committee expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming Namibian National Motocross Series, set to take place tomorrow at the Gallina Motocross track, located at Brakwater near Waldschmidt Eggs, just outside Windhoek.
The event promises thrilling races which will start as early as 11h00, with a mix of fresh talent and seasoned veterans returning to the track.
Du Plessis said, in the MX50 category, last year’s winners were Carter Bouwer (first), Delmar du Plessis (second), and Markus Pack (third). This year, Delmar du Plessis will be returning to reclaim the top spot, but with Mason Meyer ready to take on the competition, it promises to be a tight battle. The category will feature four skilled riders all vying for the podium.
The winners in the MX65 class were Delmar du Plessis (first), Oliver Mathews (second) and Markus Pack (third).
“Mathews and Pack are back to defend their titles, but they’ll face some stiff competition from Carter Bouwer and Paul Mans, who is moving up from the MX50 category. The class will feature seven riders, and with the mix of experienced and hungry competitors, it will be anyone’s race to win.”
Last year, Khian Kotze claimed the top spot in the MX85 category, followed by Leander Metzger and Conner Bouwer in third. Bouwer and Metzger are back to defend their positions, while Delmar du Plessis moves up from the MX65 category. This class will see six riders all aiming for glory.
Juan de Vos clinched first place in the 125-junior category last year, with Gero Friederich coming second and Jarno Metzger third. Both De Vos and Metzger return to fight for the top spot once more, but will face fierce competition in Marco Lindemeier and Luca Brand. Six riders will compete in this category.
The WMX class saw Zoe Waldschmidt claim victory last year, with Ronja Friederich (second) and Gabrielle Still (third).
“Waldschmidt is the only defending champion this year, following her impressive performance at the FIM Women’s Motocross Cup for Team FIM Africa. With just three riders in this class, it will be a fierce but compact battle for the top spot,” added Du Plessis.
In the open category, last year’s winner Sternagel returns to defend the title he snatched from Rigo Wolf and third-placed Tony Viljoen. This year won’t be an easy ride for Sternagel, as returning veterans Tommy Gous and Björn Bierbrauer will challenge him for the top spot, while Gero Friedrich steps up to test himself against the six riders in the class.
The veterans’ category saw Sigi Pack dominate last year, followed by Olaf Pack (second) and Ronald Geiger (third). “All three champions will return to defend their titles, but Heiko Stranghoner is eyeing a podium finish. The competition will be fierce. Six riders will compete in this class.”
In the King of the Dirt (KOD), last year’s winners were Sternagel (first), Juan de Vos (second) and Gero Friederich (third).
“These top competitors will return to defend their titles, but with all the new challengers, the question is whether they’ll keep their crowns. The KOD is a combined class that sees riders from the open, veterans, 125 junior and senior categories face off against each other in the ultimate showdown to determine who is the fastest on the track. This thrilling race will feature 17 riders, and is scheduled to start around 16h00,” added Du Plessis. – lmupetami@nepc.com.na
