Namibian musician David Shikalepo, popularly known as Exit Rockaz, has dismissed claims that he was recently arrested after a video circulated on social media.
In the video, the musician is seen in the back of a police van, inebriated, exchanging words with the police.
According to him, it is an old video of an incident that took place last year, but has resurfaced, causing widespread public confusion.
He stressed that he is not under arrest and that the claims circulating online are false.
“The video currently circulating on social media is from August last year and is not recent,” he said.
“At the time, I was a passenger in a vehicle, and the matter has long since passed. I was released the very moment I entered the station because I had done nothing wrong,” he added.
The resurfaced video has triggered a wave of speculation on social media, with many users making negative assumptions about the artist’s current state.
The renewed circulation of the footage has raised concerns about the spread of misinformation and the impact of recycled content on public figures.
He said that as a musician and public figure, moments from his past are often amplified or misrepresented in ways that would not ordinarily affect private individuals.
“Unfortunately, that attention often comes with speculation that has little to do with present reality,” said the award-winning artist.
He further stressed that he is safe, sober, and in a very different place today, focusing on his music, personal growth, and upcoming projects.
According to the artist, the resurfaced video does not reflect who he is at present.
“I am safe and focused on my music and personal growth. I have taken responsibility for my past and moved forward, and that moment does not reflect who I am now,” he said.
He also indicated that he will not revisit the incident, expressing hope that his clarification would help prevent unnecessary public confusion.
The musician thanked his supporters in Namibia and abroad for standing by him amid renewed speculation, calling for understanding and restraint when sharing old content without context.
