Flash flood warning issued

Flash flood warning issued

Meteorologist Odilo Kgobetsi has issued a warning about looming unfavourable weather conditions in the coming days.

Flash flooding, traffic jams, crop damage and livestock losses are among the dangers ahead.

He said tropical moisture is causing strong thunderstorms in the northern-central, northwest, Otjozondjupa, Omaheke, Khomas, Eastern-Hardap and eastern Karas regions.

Kgobetsi advised people to avoid crossing flooded areas during flash floods, which are predicted to see more than 50 mm of rain.

“During thunderstorms, seek cover indoors and avoid metal objects, open spaces and big trees. Be careful of wet structures and watch out for shaky structures, especially homes and restrooms,” said Kgobetsi.

He stated that on slick roads, drivers must be careful and refrain from going too fast.
